RunningWorks is a grassroots non-profit providing case management and outreach services to promote healthy lifestyle habits for children and adults experiencing homelessness and poverty.

On Wednesday, June 2, Running Works is hosting the sixth annual 12 - Hour Tun to End Homelessness! This event is designed to raise awareness about issues of homelessness and poverty in Mecklenburg County. The 2121 goal is to encourage runners across Charlotte (and around the world) to run a collective 3,456 miles, which represents the 3,456 individuals (adults and children) experiencing homelessness in Charlotte - Mecklenburg. Each mile run represents one of these individuals, so join us and make your miles count!

About Running Works

RunningWorks is a values-led, mentorship-driven 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. The program was founded in 2012 by Meredith Dolhare as a way to reach out to the homeless community and encourage them to rediscover the value of hard work, determination and self-respect.

Since 2012, the program has grown beyond a weekly running program and now provides career development services, mental health counseling, group therapy and housing initiatives.

After five years of operating out of a borrowed room at the Urban Ministry Center, RunningWorks opened a home office near Uptown Charlotte in 2017. The new “headquarters” includes donated a computer lab, where participants can complete job searches, look for housing, and do school work. There is also a lounge area, open during designated times each week, where participants can gather, find respite from inclement weather or do laundry. The biggest bonus of the new space is that it is an ideal setting to host our classroom-style life skill sessions as well as individual and group therapy counseling sessions.

RunningWorks provides outreach services and programs for children, teens and adults in Mecklenburg County, Rowan County and York County who may be in need of help transitioning out of homelessness, unemployment and addiction. We provide activity-based programs and educational workshops designed to help participants navigate pathways to successful futures by achieving goals in health, education, employment, housing and independent living.
